今回ご紹介する鉄瓶は、宝珠形鉄瓶です。こちらの鉄瓶は、盛岡市の上の橋(かみのはし)と下の橋(しものはし)にある擬宝珠(ぎぼし)をイメージして作られました。
【上の橋にある擬宝珠】
擬宝珠とは、日本の伝統的な建築物や神社、橋、寺院の階段等に設けられている飾りのことで、古くは約1,300年も前から使われていたそうです。
盛岡市の上の橋と下の橋にある擬宝珠には、今から約400年前(慶長年)の名前が刻まれており、国の重要美術品にも指定されています。

蓋(ふた)と胴(どう)が一直線に重なるように設計されたしずく形のフォルムが美しく、他の鉄瓶とは一風異なった形が特徴です。

This Tetsubin is designed with the image of "Giboshi" at Kaminohashi bridge and Shimonohashi bridge in Morioka city, Iwate prefecture.
【Giboshi at Kaminohashi bridge】
Giboshi is one of a Japanese traditional decoration which is normally used in traditional architectures, temples, bridges and stairs, which is said to have been used since about 1,300 years ago.
There are some engravings that are carved in Keicho era (Edo period, about 400 years ago) on those Giboshi at Kaminohashi bridge and Shimonohashi bridge. That's why they are preserved as one of the Japanese important cultural property.

The lid and the body overlaps perfectly straight and it looks like the shape of water droplet, which is its feature.
